Nothing really beats a good old Agatha Christie mystery or an Arthur Conan Doyle masterpiece. I've loved Miss Marple, Hercule Poirot and Sherlock Holmes all my life and I doubt we'll find a detective surpassing the unexpected genius of Miss Marple, the exemplary 'little grey cells' of the Belgian detective Hercule Poirot, and of course, the master himself - Sherlock Holmes.
It's been a while since I re-read them all, which lead me to the first challenge I'm hosting - The Marple Poirot Holmes Challenge.

I don't read much crime but I am intending to read more Sherlock Holmes next year. I'm not committing myself to any more challenges until the year has begun but good luck! If you haven't already then have a read of Simon at Savidge Reads' post yesterday on Agatha Christie and mention the challenge to him.
Thanks so much for referring me to Savidge Reads! I'v posted about the challenge there. Thank you loads =) Feel free to join the challenge whenever you can :)
Thanks for popping by my post (and thanks to Claire for mentioning me) I have signed up for this and will mention this challenge when I review A Study in Scarlet later in the month!
Thanks a lot for joining the challenge Simon! Looking forward to your reviews throughout the challenge =)

Kals-I am definitely participating in this! So excited for your first challenge. I'll post the link to my blog entry on Mr. Linky once it's written...hopefully by tonight.
Thanks so much for joining in, Meg! I knew you'd love this challenge, considering the fact that you are a fan of Miss Marple( like me) =)
Kals,
Maybe I could host a giveaway or something for the challenge? I haven't thought much about what I would do but I'd love to do something for it during the year :)
Oh of course! Go ahead =) Do let me know what you'd like to giveaway and when and you can go ahead. Thanks so much! * Hugs *
I'm currently in a challenge (perpetual) in which I am reading all the Agatha Christie's in order of their publication date. In 2010 I will finally get to the Miss Marple books. Your challenge will fit in nicely with what I plan to read in 2010 with the addition of the two Sherlock Holmes books. If crossovers are allowed, count me in on this challenge.
Crossovers are definitely allowed (I've mentioned that in the post too ) :)
Thanks so much for joining! I'll add your name to the list. Hope you enjoy the challenge =)
Thanks for sponsoring the challenge. It's just the prompt I needed to get back to reading Agatha Christie's wonderful books. We are spreading the word on our blog: http://tdreads.blogspot.com/2009/11/marple-poirot-homes-challenge.html
Thank you so much for participating! =)
kals, i don't know much about marple or poirot. can you recommend at least one from each that i should read? and did you see the sherlock holmes - victorian undead comic book i mentioned on my September Zombies site?
I'm on board for this challenge, I think it's going to be a lot of fun. Thanks for hosting it!
I'm on board; I am a fan of Doyle, Christie and the pre-WWII mysteries in general, so much so that I even took university courses in the genre for my English Lit degree.
Velvet - I'm not really a fan of Zombies so I'll probably be giving that Holmes comic book you've mentioned a miss =)Recommendations - for Poirot - Murder on the Orient Express or Sad Cypress .For Miss Marple - Nemesis or A Murder is Announced.
Emily, thanks so much for joining! =)
AustenWodehouse - That is so cool that you took the genre as part of your University courses! I'm glad you're joining!
I can't believe I missed this post-I'm so joining! I haven't read Miss Marple in forever, and I have collection of her stories just sitting in my TBR pile.
Colette - Thanks a lot for joining :D Miss Marple is too sweet and amazing :D

I've never done a reading challenge before but when I found this one I just knew it was meant for me:D
I LOVE crime and I'm an avid Christie and Doyle fan amongst other authors.
I'm off to post about this now. I may even use this as one of my homeschool challenges for my younger son.
Please add me to your list. I'll look on this as bonus as 1st January is my first day of unemployment (sorry becoming a WAHM who homeschools - I must remember to be positive).
Blessings & thanks for this wonderful opportunity
Amanda
Thanks a lot of joining, Amanda =) When I started the challenge, I wondered if there were many others who liked the same authors and detectives that I do, but I'm glad now that I've found so many people with similar tastes!

Here's my sign up post.
You're welcome :) Thanks for joining and have fun, Ana!
I'd like to join in. I grew up on these books and love them still. Here's my reading challenge post
Hi, thecoolmom ( nice name! :) ) Thanks for joining and have fun!
I am a huge British Crime fan, and I am pondering about joining this challenge. Do the Sherlock Holmes books have to be two out of the four novels?
Do join in :)
No, the books need not be out of the four novels though that would be more preferable. You can pick any of the short story 'cases' that Holmes solves for the challenge :)
http://onestepjourneys.blogspot.com/2010/03/catching-infection-from-my-mother.html
I'm joining this as well...TheCoolMom got me hooked on these :)
Count me in, Kals! I have a volume with about 10 Holmes short stories which I will consider as one book for the challenge. The other will be a novel.
I'm not sure how to officially sign up for the challenge - forgive me, I'm very new to blogging. Here is the link to my post on the challenge:
http://bookmole.blogspot.com/2010/03/mystery-challenge.html

The Black Sheep - I'm glad you're joining this challenge and hope you enjoy it :)
Hi Kals! Please update my blog's link, Miss Picky's Column is now here.
Done :)
I read 2 Sherlock Holmes. Different than the Hounds of B I remember because of the split time frames. Miss Marples is next.
Miss Marple is one of my favourites! :) I hope you enjoy reading her mysteries.
If you have/will review any of the books you read for this challenge, you can link it to this:
